A reasonable fee could buy an ad that would be read by thousands of people. For the first time, a broad gay sexual marketplace came into existence, one that effectively brought the customer a range of potential sexual service providers. Peppered among the ads to cure lonely hearts, sell real estate, and locate roommates were advertisements for masseurs, escorts, and the newly emerging telephone chat lines already discussed.
